Vol.42 Beginnings on Boards issue
Skateboarding and surfing are perhaps the most recognizable board cultures that have given rise to their own unique visual languages. As scenes strongly colored by the street culture as well in this volume we introduce a selection of creators who have expanded beyond their roots in one of the board cultures along with some of artwork.
The issue opens with some comments of representatives from Art Basel, the most acclaimed contemporary art festival in the world, along with a presentation of some of the various forms of work on display there to give readers a taste of some of the current state of street art. This is followed by interviews with 11 different curators and creators who have either been involved in, influenced by, or attracted to board cultures, taking a look at their unique histories in diverse genres such as graphic art, painting, and photography as well as some of their highly original creations. In keeping with this theme this volume's cover features an example of Hedi Slimane's abstract skate park photography.
